Prepare Your Skin for Winter

As the days are getting cooler we are now in a transitional time from summer (if you can even say we had one) to winter and this is the best time to change your skincare routine and help prepare it for the cold harsh winter.  The biggest battle between summer & winter is that our skin will show a reduction in stratum corneum lipids as well as loss of moisture, leading to a weaker skin barrier, and visible signs of dryness and redness. Skin may also feel tighter, uncomfortable and lose its luster.

In terms of skin care,

– Avoid harsh face washes and opt for a soft cream cleanser instead.

– Gently exfoliate the skin to help get rid of dry skin cells.

– Layer your products for optimum protection; therefore always use a serum before your moisturiser. Serums are very light and super concentrated; they are absorbed quickly by the skin and will help boost moisture.

– Begin using both day and night creams to really help restore the skins natural moisture factor.

With many great ‘winter’ products available I thought I would share some of my favourite ones:

Skinceuticals Emollience –   (£54) Slightly light in texture with great sreadability, this is the perfect product for those who don’t like a heavy-feeling cream but still want an intense boost of moisture.

NIA 24™ Intensive Recovery Complex :  Was developed to help deliver the greatest degree of moisture in the formation of a rich cream. I personally prefer to use this product as a night cream for its amazing regenerative action. Pro Niacin as well as ceramides, liopsomes and peptides help to recover and strengthen the skin, while brightening actives help to lift the skin’s overall appearance and bring back that lost luster.

Origins Intensive Overnight Mask, -(£20) For those day when you feel all products seem to fail, this overnight mask is a fabulous treat for your skin. Natural botanical actives and extracts will work deep into the skin and provide that needed extra hydration.

Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil (£28.50) Applying oil to skin in the same way that you would a serum helps impart the glow which is so quickly lost during the winter season. Oils help nourish and replenish the skin and are high in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. Rosehip oil in particular has a huge amount of data supporting its effectiveness with helping to recover any damaged and dry skin.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream (RRP £18- Currently on sale at £14.40 from The iconic eight hour cream! Most people have already heard about and tried this amazing cream. For me, this must be the best SOS cream on the market. Any problem like rough, red and irritated skin as well as dry and chapped lips, apply some of this on and skin will feel soft, smooth and problem free.
